Broken Garage Door Springs
All garage door spring systems break over time with use, needing replacement. Every garage door needs springs to operate. Garage door springs are the counterbalance for the weight of the door. There are two types of garage door spring systems: Torsion springs and extension springs. Torsion springs are located directly above the garage door (on the inside of your garage) and provide smooth and even operation. Some garage doors have two springs. When they do, these work together as a pair. Extension garage door springs run parallel to the tracks, stretching as the door lowers. Extension springs work independently of each other and wobble back and forth, causing uneven wear on parts.
Broken Garage Door Cables
The pulley and cable system is a complex portion of your garage door. When garage door cables fray and break, they slip off their pulleys, causing a dangerous situation. Broken cables can cause garage doors to collapse. A stretch of new cable by itself is relatively inexpensive, but repairing it yourself is dangerous and complicated. We do not recommend you attempting a DIY fix.

If a sag is left untreated, it will eventually flex so low that the garage door will no longer be able to operate the door properly. When the sag is at its worst, the garage door opener will destroy the door trying to open or close it.
Unusual Garage Door Sounds & Noises
A properly functioning garage door makes various sounds, but these will always be quiet with proper maintenance. Loud sounds and noises are evidence your garage door needs service or a repair. It is not advisable to store chlorine in your garage as the chemical is highly corrosive to metal and causes garage door damage.

Extension springs like torsion springs can snap, causing the garage door to fail. Check to make sure that both garage door springs are working properly. If both springs are functional, there needs to be an adjustment made to the extension spring system so that the door is leveled properly. Uneven garage doors can be very dangerous and are likely to fall out of track causing injury or property damage.
Slow Opening and Closing
Delays in opening and closing can mean the hinges, rollers, or tracks are sticking and need lubrication. There may be a more serious issue and a qualified professional is needed if this does not resolve the problem.
